MARKET OVERVIEW
Choose the airport around the passenger
Los Angeles rewards careful airport selection. The region’s traffic patterns mean the correct private airport can save more time on the ground than a faster aircraft saves in the air.
EWA planning view
Van Nuys is the best-known business aviation airport in the region, but Burbank, Hawthorne and Long Beach may be substantially closer to a traveler’s actual destination. LAX is generally evaluated for airline connections, specialized handling or selected international missions.
AT A GLANCE
AIRPORT COMPARISON
The shortlist—and why it changes
| Code | Airport | Best considered for | Planning detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| VNY | Van Nuys Airport | San Fernando Valley | LAWA describes VNY as one of the world’s busiest general aviation airports. It has two parallel runways; the primary runway is 8,000 feet and the field hosts four major FBOs. |
| BUR | Hollywood Burbank | Studios / Downtown / Valley | A mixed-use airport that can be practical for studios, downtown Los Angeles and the eastern Valley, subject to aircraft and handling availability. |
| HHR | Hawthorne Municipal | South Bay / Westside | A close-in general aviation option for the South Bay and portions of the Westside; runway and operating requirements must fit the proposed aircraft. |
| LGB | Long Beach Airport | Long Beach / Orange County | A useful southern option for Long Beach and northern Orange County with business aviation services. |
